Four families in Kiharu, Murang’a County is mourning following the sudden demise of their loved ones on Sunday, July 18.

According to police reports, four women – Jane Waiego, Mary Njeri, Margret Karura Waithaka and Mary Waithera – were killed in a hit and run incident along the curvy Murang’a – Kangema road.

Three women died on the spot, while one succumbed to the injuries while receiving treatment at the Murang’a County Referral Hospital.

A report by a local TV station indicated that the vehicle was being driven by a teenager who fled the scene following the accident.

The report further indicated that the teenager had taken the vehicle from his father without permission.

The vehicle was towed to Murang’a Police Station as investigations into the matter is launched.

This came a month after businessman Ayub Kinyanjui was arrested for letting his underage son drive his Toyota Prado TX in Gatanga, Murang’a County.

The businessman was arraigned in court and fined Ksh20,000 for allowing his son to drive unsupervised.

Speaking to K24 TV, Kinyanjui claimed that he had never taught his son how to drive, instead attributing his driving skills to video games. “The boy loves playing Grand Theft Auto (GTA) and Need For Speed (NFS) on the screen. He spends most of his free time playing the games, and he loves winning,” Ayub told K24.
