Former Chief Justice Evans Gicheru dies

Former Chief Justice Evans Gicheru is dead.

Gicheru died on Friday morning (December 25), outgoing Chief Justice David Maraga confirmed in a statement.

Maraga, in his statement, did not reveal the ex-CJ’s cause of death, or whether he had been in hospital.

“The Kenya and Judiciary family have lost a steadfast public servant, selfless professional and humble human being,” Maraga said in the statement.

Evans Gicheru, who was first appointed a judge of the High Court in 1982, served as Kenya’s Chief Justice between February 21, 2003 and February 2011.
