Police in Kasarani, Nairobi have arrested three suspects for impersonating Kenya Defence Forces soldiers in a plot to swindle members of the public.

The three suspects, Elisha Onyango, Derrick Nyakundi and Amos Mutuku were seized on Monday, April 5, in a discreet operation.

At the time of the arrest, Onyango was found donning full military uniform of the rank of Major.

Police said the trio were purporting to be senior military officers involved in the recruitment of aspiring candidates.

“They obtained Sh350,000 from one Mbaru John claiming they were in a position to recruit his son into the KDF,” read the police report.

Officers also found military training certificates belonging to different individuals, military course of action documents, and admission letters to the Recruits Training School in Moi Barracks, Eldoret.

They will be arraigned and charged with obtaining money by false pretenses, impersonation and being in possession of government stores after being found with military uniform.
