The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President, Faith Odhiambo, on Friday, September 12, 2025, congratulated lawyers who turned up in large numbers for a peaceful march in Nairobi Central Business District.

Through her X handle, Odhiambo expressed gratitude to lawyers and members of the public who walked side by side in solidarity, saying the unity was a powerful call for justice following the brutal assassination of Senior Advocate Kyalo Mbobu.

The peaceful march comes after the lawyers demanded justice after his fatal shooting.

In her message, Odhiambo said the turnout was proof that Kenya’s legal fraternity remains unshaken in the face of intimidation.

She reminded Kenyans that Article 37 of the Constitution gives every citizen the right to peacefully demonstrate and petition.

“Members of the Law Society of Kenya showed up in numbers to express their right under Article 37 of the Constitution to demonstrate over the recent killing of one of our own, Senior Kyalo Mbobu.

“Our resounding call through our public expression and the Petition we presented to the National Police Service is that as we advocate for justice, there must be justice for Advocates,” she wrote.

Odhiambo also paid tribute to Mbobu, a respected scholar and former chair of the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal, describing him as a beacon of legal excellence whose work will outlive him.

“May Senior Mbobu rest in eternal light. I thank all members for uniting in the common cause for Justice,” she added.

It is worth noting that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has launched a full-scale probe into the killing.

United call for justice

The Purple Ribbon March, which began at Milimani Law Courts, wound its way through Kenyatta Avenue before culminating at Jogoo House, the headquarters of the police.

Lawyers in their hundreds carried placards demanding swift arrests and accountability. Their message was clear, justice delayed would mean justice denied.

The peaceful procession came just a day after the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions directed police to submit a full report on the killing within seven days.

Following Mbobu’s murder, several leaders have come out to condemn his killing and call for swift investigations to ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice.

Kyalo Mbobu was gunned down earlier this week in Nairobi in what has been described as a calculated assassination.

CCTV footage revealed that he was trailed by a suspicious man just outside his office at the Town House building moments before he was attacked.

According to an autopsy conducted by government pathologist Johansen Oduor, Mbobu was shot eight times with high-lethality bullets along Magadi Road.

The killing has shocked the nation, sparking renewed calls for protection of advocates and an end to impunity.
