Eugene Wamalwa says opposition will have one joint presidential candidate

The Democratic Action Party-Kenya (DAP-K) party leader, Eugene Wamalwa, has disclosed that the United Opposition will front one presidential candidate to contest the incumbent president in the next general elections.
In an interview with a local media station on Monday night, July 14, 2025, Wamalwa said that although five opposition leaders had shown interest in vying for the presidency, they would agree on and settle behind a single candidate.
He added that with time, the United opposition will unveil its agenda.
“We have ten parties that have come together and five presidential candidates. I am the official presidential candidate of the DAP-K party, Rigathi Gachagua from DCP, Martha Karua from PLP, Kalonzo Musyoka from Wiper and Matiang’i, who is yet to decide on which party he will run, and we are going to agree on one,” he said.

“It has happened before, and we will agree on which one, but that is our secret weapon, and we will say it at our own time. We are building a team, and we have more who will be joining us as we go along we will be sharing our agenda with Kenyans and will be agreeing on a candidate, the opposition will have one joint presidential candidate that will send William Ruto home.”

Wamalwa went on to say that if anyone among them was found to have been implicated in corruption, such a person should not be allowed to go to the statehouse, warning that they would only have the opportunity to loot the country further.
“I think we need to look at their records, anyone who wishes to run for the highest office must agree to have their public records because it is a record of public service that must be scrutinised by every Kenyan,” he said.
“If among us you find anyone has been implicated in corruption, please do not allow that man or woman to go to the statehouse, because they will only have a chance to loot this country more.”

The DAP-K leader further added that to end extrajudicial killings, nobody with blood on their hands should be elected.
“If we want this country to move on, extrajudicial killing must end, anyone who has blood on their hands, anyone who has been implicated, should not be elected,” Wamalwa said.
