The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has announced a slight drop in the prices of Super Petrol and Kerosene, reducing each by Ksh1 per litre, leaving Diesel prices steady for the forthcoming month.

In a statement released on Thursday, August 14, 2025, EPRA said the revised pump prices will apply from August 15 to September 14, 2025. In Nairobi, Super Petrol will now retail at Ksh185.31, Kerosene at Ksh155.58, while Diesel will continue selling at Ksh171.58.

In Mombasa, motorists will now pay Ksh182.03 for Super Petrol, Ksh168.30 for Diesel, and Ksh152.29 for Kerosene.

In Kisumu, the prices are Ksh185.16 for Super Petrol, Ksh171.78 for Diesel, and Ksh155.83 for Kerosene.

“In accordance with Section 101(y) of the Petroleum Act 2019 and Legal Notice No.192 of 2022, the Energy & Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has calculated the maximum retail prices of petroleum products which will be in force from 15th August 2025 to 14th September 2025. In the period under review, the maximum allowed petroleum pump prices for Super Petrol and Kerosene decreased by KShs 1.00/litre respectively, while the price of Diesel remained unchanged,” the statement read in part.

EPRA attributed the reduction in petrol prices to a slight drop in the average landed cost of imported Super Petrol, which fell by 0.73 per cent from USD 628.30 (Ksh 81,168.36) per cubic metre in June 2025 to USD 623.71 (Ksh 80,624.13) per cubic metre in July 2025.

“Currently, Kenya imports all its petroleum product requirements in refined form, and the products are traded in international markets based on a pricing benchmark.”

The authority noted that the new prices include the 16 per cent Value Added Tax, as provided for under the Finance Act 2023, the Tax Laws (Amendment) Act 2024, and revised excise duty rates adjusted for inflation.

“The prices are inclusive of the 16% Value Added Tax (VAT) in line with the provisions of the Finance Act 2023, the Tax Laws (Amendment) Act 2024 and the revised rates for excise duty adjusted for inflation as per Legal Notice No. 194 of 2020,” EPRA stated.

The changes mean petrol users will see a small relief at the pump, while kerosene-dependent households will benefit slightly from lower costs. Diesel consumers, including transport operators, will have to cope with unchanged prices despite higher costs in the global market.

In Nairobi last month, Super Petrol was priced at Ksh186.31 per litre, Diesel at Ksh171.58, and Kerosene at Ksh156.58.
