Duale sets conditions for lifting ban on 40 health facilities

Health CS Aden Duale has clarified that all 40 facilities that were suspended over SHA fraud will have their suspension lifted.

Speaking to the media on Friday, August 8, 2025, the CS said that the suspension will be lifted when the affected facilities fully comply with the corrective actions issued by the regulator.

Compliance first

Duale stressed that no facility will be allowed to resume operations under the Social Health Authority without first addressing the issues that led to their suspension.

“The facilities that were recently suspended will not have the suspension lifted until they comply with the corrective actions issued by the regulator,” part of the statement read.

He warned those attempting to bypass the process by visiting SHA offices in person, saying such efforts were pointless.

“Let me make this clear, and to those people who come to our SHA offices, you are wasting our time,” part of the statement read.

The CS urged the facilities to focus on meeting the compliance requirements instead of lobbying for reinstatement through informal channels.

Honest business

Duale emphasised that the government is committed to ensuring only genuine and transparent healthcare providers operate under the SHA.

He said compliance with regulatory directives is the only path to having the suspension lifted.

“Comply with and take the corrective actions issued by the regulators, and we can consider lifting the suspension for you to continue conducting genuine, honest business,” part of the statement read.

He noted that fraudulent practices undermine public trust and divert resources meant for patients who genuinely need care.

According to the CS, strict adherence to SHA guidelines will protect both patients and the integrity of the healthcare system.

The 40 facilities were suspended following investigations into irregularities involving false claims and misuse of funds under the SHA.

The Ministry of Health, together with other agencies, is monitoring compliance efforts and will only reinstate facilities that meet all requirements.

Duale reiterated that the crackdown is part of a broader campaign to ensure accountability in public health programmes and to safeguard taxpayer funds.

He urged all healthcare providers to uphold professionalism and integrity in service delivery.
