CS Ruku: Relief operations underway for Marakwet landslide victims
The government has fully activated its emergency response and relief services to support victims of the landslide that struck parts of Elgeyo Marakwet County, Public Service, Human Capital Development, and Special Programmes, Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku has announced.
Speaking during the burial of Ndaru Kagina in Gachuriri, Mbeere South, Embu County, on Saturday, November 1, 2025, CS Ruku said his Ministry has mobilised all relevant disaster and emergency agencies to ensure that affected families receive immediate assistance, including food, shelter, and other essential supplies.
“No Kenyan will be left to suffer in Marakwet. The government is on the ground to offer relief services, restore normalcy, and ensure our people return to stability,” Ruku said.
He noted that the response efforts would also extend to parts of Trans Nzoia County, particularly Kimilili, where floods have displaced several families.
“President William Ruto’s administration stands with all Kenyans in times of distress. The people of Kimilili will not be forgotten,” he added.
Turning to development matters, Ruku highlighted that the Kenya Kwanza government has rolled out numerous projects in previously marginalised regions. He cited ongoing road works, such as the Kanyuambora–Gachoka road, as evidence of the administration’s commitment to ending historical marginalisation.
“For years, the Mbeere community was left behind, but President Ruto’s government has broken that chain. We must remain steadfast in supporting a government that is delivering development,” he urged.
Ruku cautioned locals against being swayed by opposition figures, insisting that meaningful development can only thrive through continued partnership with the national government. In a veiled attack on former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, the CS accused him of deceit and divisive politics.
“Gachagua is not a truthful man; he thrives on lies and division under the guise of defending the community,” Ruku claimed.
