CS Ogamba launches 2025 national exams season for 3.4 million candidates
Cabinet Secretary for Education, Julius Migos Ogamba, has officially launched the 2025 National Examinations and Assessment Season at the New Mitihani House in South C, Nairobi.
In a post on X on Friday, October 3, 2025, the Ministry of Education noted that the event marks the formal commencement of a Whole-of-Government effort to deliver seamless and credible national examinations and assessments.
“This morning, the Cabinet Secretary for Education, Julius Migos Ogamba, has officially launched the 2025 National Examinations and Assessment Season at the New Mitihani House in South C, Nairobi. This marks the formal commencement of the Whole-of-Government effort to deliver seamless and credible national examinations and assessments,” the ministry shared.
The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) had earlier issued a public alert over fake exam papers circulating on social media ahead of the 2025 national examinations.
The Ministry revealed that the inaugural Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) will see 1,130,669 learners sitting for the test.
It added that another 1,298,089 learners are expected to sit the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA), while 996,078 candidates will participate in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations.
“The inaugural Kenya Junior School Education Assessment will have 1,130,669 learners. Another 1,298,089 learners will sit the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment, while 996,078 candidates will sit the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education examination.”

The Ministry highlighted that the collaborative multi-agency approach is aimed at ensuring that the examinations and assessments accurately reflect the honest work of learners.
It noted that this approach involves close coordination between various government departments and agencies to safeguard integrity and maintain high standards throughout the assessment process.
“Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education examination. Through the collaborative multi-agency effort, we will work to ensure that the examinations and assessments reflect the honest work of the learners,” the ministry shared.
According to the Ministry, the launch was attended by the Chairman of the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC), as well as other key stakeholders in the education sector.
It noted that the gathering highlighted the government’s commitment to promoting transparency, credibility, and excellence in national assessments.
“The event was attended by, among others, the Chairman of KNEC, Prof. Julius Nyabundi, the KNEC CEO, Dr. David Njengere and the acting CEO of the Teachers Service Commission, Ms. Evaleen Mitei,” it added.
