Covid-19 cases in Kenya slowly marching to 100,000-mark: Kagwe

Sixty-nine people on Monday tested positive for the coronavirus disease as the number of confirmed cases in the country marched towards the 100,000-mark.

The 69 were confirmed from a sample of 1,987 tested in the last 24 hours, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe announced in his daily briefings to the press.

So far, the Ministry of Health as tested 1,035,309 samples since the first case was confirmed in Kenya in March this year.

Of the 69 people with Covid-19, 53 are Kenyans while 16 are foreigners with majority of those infected being men.

Nairobi led with the most cases with 44 people have been found with the virus. The remaining 25 cases were found in 11 other counties, namely: Busia (5), Mombasa (5), Kilifi (5), Kajiado (3), Machakos (1), Meru (1), Nyamira (1), Kiambu (1), Nyandarua (1), Kitui (1) and Nakuru (1).

CS Kagwe revealed that the number of those who have recovered from the disease rose to 77,521 after 98 patients were released, 77 of them from home-based care progra while 21 were discharged from various hospitals.

However, six patients died of the virus in the last 24 hours bringing to total 1,664 the number of deaths resulting from Covid-19.

Kagwe said that 673 patients are admitted in various hospitals countrywide while another 3,386 are reuperating from home.

Those receiving treatment in intensive care units are 34 with 17 of them in ventilation support, the government said.
