Covid-19: 8 deaths recorded as 431 people test positive

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe has announced 431 new cases of Covid-19 from a sample size of 5,281 tested in the last 24 hours. This represents a positivity rate of 8.2 per cent.

The new cases bring the total number of positive cases in the country to 193,921 while the cumulative tests done in the country stands at 2,059,193.

CS Kagwe on a positive note announced 595 cases of recoveries out of which 542 were from home-based isolation and care while 53 were treated in various hospitals in the country.

This brings the total number of recoveries to 182,921 out of which 146,284 are from home-based care and isolation programs while 36,637 are from various health facilities.

Sadly, the CS has announced eight more deaths from the pandemic, all recorded after conducting facility record audits in March and June 2021.

The total number of deaths now shoots to 3,783.

According to Kagwe, a total of 1,224 patients are currently admitted to various health facilities countrywide while 4,358 are under home-based isolation and care.

134 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 35 of whom are on ventilatory support and 70 on supplemental oxygen. 29 are under observation.

284 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 262 of them in general wards and 22 in High Dependency Units (HDU).
