Cleophas Malala claims Seth Panyako under attack
Former Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala says Democratic Action Party-Kenya (DAP–K) Malava parliamentary by-election candidate Seth Panyako is under attack.
In a statement on Thursday, November 27, 2025, Malala said that goons under government protection had attacked an hotel where Malala was spending the night and killed a guard.
“Security Alert! Government goons escorted by police are currently breaking into Hon Seth Panyako’s Downhill Hotel, where he is spending the night. They have already killed the gate man and are currently breaking the doors. Let’s all wake up and salvage our son. Downhill Hotel is at Kaburengu junction,” Malala stated.

This comes a day after Panyako raised serious concerns over rising political tension and intimidation in Malava, accusing state actors of attempting to influence local politics through fear, harassment, and interference.
Panyako said the situation in the area had escalated to a point where families were living in fear and democratic processes were under threat.
“Ati wanatafuta bibi yangu, ako kwa mkutano kwa hoteli Malava, wanakuta watu wanakunywa pombe kwa hoteli huko Malava, wanasema ati nyinyi ni watu wa Panyako, mko kwa mkutano na Panyako,” Panyako said, adding that his wife was unwell and unable to move around at night.
“Na hata bibi yangu ni mgonjwa hawezi tembea usiku, huo ni ujinga wa aina gani, hii ni nchi ya aina gani,” he added.
Panyako also claimed there is a plan to arrest several opposition politicians as the country gears up for the upcoming by-election across the nation.
In a statement on his X page on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, Panyako also alleged an elaborate plan to manipulate the elections through influencing voters through bribery.
“I am aware they are planning to use police to intimidate and harass key people in our campaign, including George Natembeya, Eugene Wamalawa, (Boni) Khalwale, and myself, to steal an election they have lost,” he revealed.
