CJ Koome mourns death of Milimani Commercial Court Resident Magistrate Jalenga

The judiciary fraternity is mourning the death of Zena Atetwe Rashid Jalenga, a Resident Magistrate at the Milimani Commercial Court, who passed away on the morning of Sunday, October 20, 2024.

Chief Justice Martha Koome shared the sad news through her X account, revealing that Zena’s death follows a long illness that she had fought bravely.

Koome expressed grief over the magistrate’s passing. In her statement, Chief Justice Koome praised Jalenga for her dedication and unwavering commitment to justice during her tenure.

“It is with a profound sense of loss and sadness that I announce the death of Hon. Zena Atetwe Rashid Jalenga, Resident Magistrate, Milimani Commercial Court, which occurred early in the morning of October 20, 2024, following a long illness bravely borne,” the Chief Justice said.

She went on to highlight the contributions Jalenga made to the judiciary, noting that she worked diligently, upholding the values enshrined in the Kenyan Constitution while serving the nation.

“During her service in the judiciary, Hon. Rashid exhibited a firm commitment to the cause of justice and the rule of law, working diligently and in keeping with the values of the Constitution in service to our nation,” Koome added.

Koome conveyed her condolences on behalf of the entire judiciary to Jalenga’s family, friends, and loved ones and prayed for strength during this challenging time.

“On my behalf and that of the judicial fraternity, I extend heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and loved ones. We pray that the Almighty God graces us with the fortitude to brave this difficult period and rests her soul in eternal peace,” she concluded.
