A saloon car that plunged into the Likoni Ferry channel early Saturday has been removed from the Indian Ocean.
The vehicle, which was 6 meters deep in the sea, belongs to John Mutinda, who died after allegedly driving the car right into the Indian Ocean at 4:20am Saturday.
Mutinda’s body was removed from the vehicle at around 8:40am.
The deceased was the only person in the saloon car of registration plate KAX 474B.
The Kenya Ferry Services said the man, who was heading to Mombasa Island from Kwale side, drove at a high speed straight to the ramp, ignoring calls by the ramp controllers to stop.
The ferry agency says at the time of the accident, there was no vessel on the ramp.
Mutinda’s body was taken to Coast General Referral Hospital morgue, whereas his mangled vehicle was towed to Likoni Police Station.
