Caleb Amisi urges youth to shun protests and register as voters

Saboti MP Caleb Amisi has called on Kenyan youth to abandon protests in the streets and instead focus their energy on registering to vote, following President William Ruto’s regazettement of the chairperson and commissioners of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
In a strongly worded statement shared via his official X account on the night of Thursday, July 10, 2025, shortly after the announcement, Amisi urged the youth to stop risking their lives in violent demonstrations, saying the most powerful weapon they now have is their vote.
“I now call upon the youth of Kenya to avoid bullets in the streets and start preparing to take voters’ cards. The road to #Wantam is now clear. No more loss of life. Just register to vote the best for Kenya. And remember, Kenya needs a Renaissance!” Amisi stated.

Ruto gazettes IEBC commissioners
Amisi’s statement comes moments after Ruto gazetted the new IEBC chairperson, Erastus Ethekon, and six commissioners.
The gazette comes moments after the High Court upheld the nomination of the seven commissioners, after a three-judge bench led by Justices Roselyne Aburili, John Chigiti, and Bahati Mwamuye dismissed a petition challenging the nomination of the commissioners.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by Article 250 (2) as read with section 5 (2) of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Act and Paragraph 4 of the First Schedule to the Act, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, appoint Erastus Edung Ethekon to be the Chairperson of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission for a period of six (6) years,” Ruto stated.
Ethekon will lead a team of six, including Ann Njeri Nderitu, Moses Alutalala Mukhwana, Mary Karen Sorobit, Hassan Noor Hassan, Francis Odhiambo Aduol, and Fahima Araphat Abdallah.
