Ambassador Nicholas Muratha Mugo, husband of the Nominated Senator Beth Mugo was cremated in a private ceremony attended by his close family members at the Kariokor crematorium.
The brief ceremony that took about 10 minutes was attended by Mama Ngina Kenyatta, Muhoho Kenyatta, and other close family members.
A close family member, Kung’u Muigai said more details will be shared during a church service which will be held tomorrow.
“Everything will be addressed at home (Kitisuru) during the church service on Sunday,” Kung’u, who is also the family spokesperson said.
Mugo succumbed to prostate cancer on Thursday morning at the Nairobi hospital at the age of 86.
President Kenyatta who is Beth’s cousin mourned Nicholas as a patriot who was dedicated to laying a good foundation for the country.
“He was able to represent our nation as a diplomat in the United Kingdom and later at the UN General Assembly where, together with other Kenyans, he effectively represented Kenya’s interests in the global arena,” President Kenyatta eulogized him.
Nicholas served as Kenyan Ambassador to Ethiopia from 1969 to 1973. He also served as the Kenyan diplomat to Yugoslavia, France, and Sudan.
In a long period of time, he served as an elder at the Presbyterian Church of East Africa (PCEA).
