Babu Owino: Raila’s body language shows I won’t get ODM Nairobi governor ticket
Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has made peace with not getting an endorsement from his ODM Party to vie for Nairobi governor in 2027.
Speaking during a breakfast show at Kameme TV on Thursday, September 4, 2025, Owino stated that the body language of ODM Party leader Raila Odinga reveals that he has a preferred candidate for the position other than himself.
“I am sure I will not get the ODM ticket to vie for Nairobi Governor in 2027. Sakaja was endorsed by Raila in Bomas during the AUC prayer meeting,” Owino remarked.
Respect to Raila
“I am sure that I will never be given an ODM ticket, but I will respect Raila as my political godfather even though all my plans are in God’s hands,” he added.
Owino equally indicated that despite being a loyal member of the party, he has been increasingly sidelined from the affairs of the party, and that it was evident that his presence was no longer valued.

“When Sakaja was endorsed at Bomas and was rescued by Raila and Ruto recently, this is a sign that my presence in the party is no longer valued. However, there is still time to make things right,” Owino observed.
Loyal member of ODM
“Nobody has ever loved Raila like I did; I was among the first people to be detained by the Ruto administration for three days because of my belief in Raila, and I have suffered immensely during the demos,” he stated.
“That is not the character of a person who distances himself from a party, but of one who associates with the party.”
While Raila met ODM MCAs in Nairobi County and resolved that Governor Johnson Sakaja be allowed more time to fix the grievances raised by the County Assembly seeking to impeach him, Raila has on several occasions hinted at supporting Sakaja’s re-election in 2027.

Speaking at the Bomas of Kenya on Monday, February 10, 2025, Raila endorsed Sakaja to take care of his political affairs in Nairobi in 2027.
“Nataka Nairobi ibaki imara, ndo huyu kijana wangu huyu ashikilie, afanye kazi sawa sawa,” Raila said as he pointed at Sakaja, who had joined the prayer event.
Owino, however, maintains that Sakaja has irredeemably failed the people of Nairobi and that anybody supporting his leadership must be gaining some form of inducement to do so.
