The Central Organization of Trade Unions (Kenya), COTU (K), has extended heartfelt congratulations to Donald Trump following his victory in the November 5, 2024, US general elections.

In a statement released on November 7, 2024, Secretary-General Francis Atwoli expressed gratitude for what he described as divine protection over the newly elected President, citing his leadership at a critical juncture for both America and the global stage.

“Indeed, we thank God for saving and protecting Trump to lead America at such a critical time,” Atwoli said in a statement.

The COTU boss highlighted the warmth and enthusiasm with which Kenyan workers received the news of Trump’s election, recognizing the long-standing ties between Kenya and the US.

“The news of the election of President Donald Trump was received warmly and with a lot of excitement by Kenyan workers considering the strong relationship between Kenya and the United States,” the statement read.

Atwoli commends Trump’s spirituality

Atwoli further noted that in an era when many nations are contending with leaders whose policies appear disconnected from the needs of their people, the choice of Trump as President is seen as a positive turn toward a more action-oriented and stable leadership style.

“Noteworthy, countries the world over are in dire need of strong leaders who are equally God-fearing and can take decisive action on numerous issues on the global stage. As such, the election of President Trump is not only a win for stability at the global stage but also fresh air of sanity and action-oriented leadership,” he said.

Atwoli praised Trump for what they described as his decisive leadership, rooted in values that align with Kenya’s strong faith-based traditions.

“As Kenyan workers, it remains our hope and trust that President Trump will usher in the much-needed sanity considering the rise of ungodly leaders with ungodly public policies, which transcend their borders, on the very platform. Kenyan workers are a people from a God-fearing nation and thus we will always stand with President Donald J. Trump,” Atwoli added.

Looking ahead, the COTU Secretary-General also expressed hope that President Trump would work alongside American trade unions, specifically the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO), to prioritize the welfare and interests of American workers, whose support was critical to his election success.

“Finally, we equally hope and trust that President Trump will recognize and work with the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) to enhance the welfare and interests of the American Workers whose votes contributed to his victory,” Atwoli’s statement concluded.
