Kileleshwa ward Member of the County Assembly (MCA) Robert Alai has called on the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) party leader Eugene Wamalwa to recognise President William Ruto’s role in boosting the morale of the national football team, Harambee Stars.

Taking to his official X account on Sunday, August 17, 2025, Alai shared Wamalwa’s congratulatory post and urged him to give credit where it is due, noting that President Ruto’s support has helped uplift the players.

“Appreciate President @WilliamsRuto too. He boosted their morale, “Alai said.

His remarks come in the wake of Harambee Stars’ impressive displays at the ongoing CHAN 2025 tournament, where the team has continued to win the hearts of Kenyans with their spirited performances.

While political leaders have been quick to congratulate the team, Alai insisted that acknowledging the Head of State’s contribution was equally important in motivating and sustaining the Stars’ success.

Wamalwa’s message

Alai’s remarks come after the former Cabinet Secretary congratulated Harambee Stars on their win against Zambia, praising them for playing a fantastic game and making the nation proud once again.

“Congratulations, #HarambeeStars on your win against Zambia. You have played a fantastic game. You did us proud yet again. #CHAN2024 #totalenergieswafcon2024,” Wamalwa said.

Harambee Stars victory

This comes after Kenya sealed top spot in the CHAN 2024 Group A after edging Zambia 1-0 at Kasarani, while Morocco produced a ruthless second-half performance to beat DR Congo 3-1 at Nyayo and claim the second ticket to the quarter-finals.

The Harambee Stars, already assured of progression before kickoff, were made to work hard against a stubborn Zambia side. The breakthrough finally came in the 75th minute, when substitute Boniface Muchiri slipped a pass through to Ryan Ogam, who controlled brilliantly inside the box before smashing past the keeper to send the Kasarani crowd into raptures.

It was a reward for Kenya’s dominance in possession and territory, though Zambia exited the tournament winless. Across the city at Nyayo, Morocco and DR Congo delivered a high-stakes battle.

After a cagey first half that ended 1-1, Morocco seized control after the break. They added the second from the penalty spot, Hrimat calmly converting to make it 2-1 in the 70th minute. As DR Congo pushed forward desperately, Lamlioui struck again, finishing off another slick move to seal a 3-1 victory and Morocco’s place in the last eight.
