Seven people have lost their lives while several others have been left injured following separate road accidents along the Mai Mahiu-Narok Highway.

Narok East Police Commander Samson Rukunga confirmed the incident noting that the accident occurred after a trailer heading to Mai Mahiu from Narok lost control after a tire burst, hitting a Station Wagon car, an Ena Coach bus and a Narok Line matatu, killing two occupants of the matatu on the spot.

“The first accident occurred when a trailer traveling from Narok suffered a tire burst, lost control, and collided with a station wagon, a bus belonging to Ena Coach Company, and a Narok Line matatu,” Rukunga told the press.

After a while, another incident involving a second trailer heading towards the same direction as the initial one, collided head-on with another Toyota Prado heading towards the opposite direction, killing two occupants of the Prado on the spot.

Another occupant from the Toyota Prado succumbed to injuries while receiving treatment at the Narok County Hospital.

The police commander also stated that the second trailed hit a motorcycle killing two pillion passengers on the spot.

“The second trailer also struck a motorcycle, killing two pillion passengers on the spot,” Rukunga said.

While the exact number of those injured is yet to be confirmed, rescue teams rushed those injured to the Narok County Referral Hospital for treatment whereas the bodies of the deceased were moved to the hospital’s mortuary.

“A road traffic incident involving six vehicles has occurred at Maltauro, along the Narok-Mai Mahiu Road. Several injured people have been rushed to Narok County Referral Hospital,” Kenya Red Cross said.
