A five-year-old boy slipped into a septic tank and died at Rimu village in Ndhiwa, Homa Bay County.
According to the local chief, Cyprian Obonyo, the boy slipped into the uncovered septic tank on Sunday, March 14, while playing with other children at his grandmother’s compound.
Obonyo said that the incident occurred while the woman, who is also the principal of Nyamogo Girls Secondary School, was away.
The chief said that other children became suspicious after the boy’s abrupt disappearance and raised an alarm attracting villagers who searched and spotted his body minutes later.
Police from Ndhiwa Police Station were alerted and retrieved the body.
The body was taken to Manyatta Kobodo mortuary.
