4 people shot dead in Kapedo attack

Four people have been killed, among them two high school students, at Kapedo village in the contentious Baringo-Turkana counties border.

The four were shot dead on Thursday morning as they were going to fetch firewood by unknown assailants.

Kapedo Assistant Chief Mercy Asmit confirmed the incident, revealing there has been tension in the area.

She said a contingent of police officers have been dispatched to comb the bush to flush out attackers and collect the bodies.

Recently, the two communities residing in the region held a peace meeting convened by Rift Valley Regional Commissioner George Natembeya and top security officials in the North Rift region.

The peace meeting was also attended by Governors Jackson Mandagor, Stanley Kiptis (Baringo), Josephat Nanok (Turkana) and John Lonyangapuo (West Pokot).

Tiaty MP William Kamket and Turkana East MP Mohamed Ali Lokiru were also at the Saturday.

The peace meeting was held to ease tensions after those living in Kapedo were unable to move in and out of the region over of attacks.
