A 28-year-old man who hacked his mother to death at Kibingoti area in Kirinyaga County on Thursday died after irate villagers burned and buried his dead body.

Moses Gitau who fled after committing the gruesome act was tricked into walking in an ambush laid by angry neighbors who burnt him to death.

According to villagers, the deceased vanished and resurfaced later in an attempt to kill his brother.

Kibingoti villagers say they have been living in fear after the deceased murdered his 58-year-old mother Tabitha Muringo Mwai.

“Alikuwa anataka kuua ndugu yake…alikuwa anamnyonga, huyo ndugu yake akapata nguvu akapiga nduri watu wakakuja wakamsaidia,” a villager calimed.

Upon hearing cries for help, the deceased left his brother and fled to their house where he locked himself inside.

“He had a jembe. When he locked himself in the house, people arrived and brought the house down,” a resident said.

Police exhumed the suspects body on Saturday morning and took it to Kirinyaga Hospital morgue.
