Police in Kirinyaga County have launched investigations to establish how a 45-year-old man was murdered and body dumped at the banks of River Nyamindi in Mûrûri, Mwea Constituency.

Confirming the incident, Mwea East Subcounty Police Commander Daniel Kitavi said that the body which had been stashed in a sack had multiple injuries in the head.

The body was later moved to Kerugoya Hospital Mortuary, awaiting postmortem to establish further details on the gruesome murder.

“According to preliminary investigations, the deceased was murdered in an unknown place before his body was transferred to the scene. He is yet to be identified,” Kiatavi told K24 Digital via a phone interview.

Area residents say that they discovered the body on Tuesday at around 12 noon.

“We were notified about a dead body stuffed in a sack by a colleague at around noon and we flocked to the scene to view it,” bodaboda rider noted.

The body was picked by police and transferred to Kerugoya Hospital Mortuary, but locals say that they did not identify him, evidence that he had been killed elsewhere.

“Most of his body had been stashed in the sack and only the legs were visible before the police arrived and untied it,” a source said.

In the recent past, River Nyamindi has been a dumping ground of dead bodies.

At around May this year, the body of Somali-American businessman Bashir Mohamed was retrieved from River Nyamindi, after he had been killed elsewhere.

Earlier in the year, three bodies were discovered by locals while floating on the same river.
