A police officer warmed the hearts of Kenyans after a video surfaced online where the cop stopped the flow of traffic at a zebra crossing to teach a few pupils about road safety.
In the short clip, the cop is seen carrying out the all-so-important road safety lesson to the kids who obligingly follow his cue.
“You look right, then left, then right again,” the traffic cop advises as his other colleague handles impatient motorists stuck in the mini snarl-up that is quickly building up.
“Mwingine anasema tu right lakini haangalii, then utakanyagwa na gari (one of you is saying ‘right’ but is failing to look in that direction, and you may get involved in an accident),” the cop rebuked some of the inattentive learners as he progressed with the practical lesson.

Traffic accidents
Figures from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) paint a grim picture of the accidents involving pedestrians.
In April 2024, NTSA revealed that some 436 pedestrians had died from traffic accidents since the beginning of the year 2024.
This figure was followed by some 276 deaths of motorcycle riders, while another 255 motorvehicle passengers died during the same period.
102 pillion passengers were reported to have died while 98 drivers also lost their lives as a result of road crashes during the period under review.
On April 16 2024, Roads and Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen noted that in the last decade, 4000 people lost their lives annually due to road accidents.
Murkomen lamented what he termed as flagrant disobedience of traffic laws by some passengers to be the cause of some of the traffic accidents.
“I feel very sad that an entire family boards a bodaboda and then people are busy saying where is the Minister?”
Government spokesperson Isaac Mwaura also observed that the safety of Kenyans was a collective responsibility of all players.
“Accordingly, we urge motorists and other road users to observe traffic rules, all road users to share roads responsibly, drivers, and vehicle owners, Sacco/company officials to comply with the laws relating to routes, timing and overloading and call on pedestrians to report all incidences of traffic violations by drivers including in public transport,” Mwaura stated.
