Arsenal forward Leandro Trossard has exuded optimism that ‘something good’ awaits the London club, who are in contention for a first Premier League title in over two decades.

The Belgian, who scored the late winner to send Arsenal five points clear at the top of the EPL standings, shared his thoughts while soaking in the atmosphere following the hard-fought victory away at West Ham United’s London Stadium.

“It was pure joy because we knew what we had to do today. We created some chances in the first half, but it was tough because we know what they are fighting for as well,” he told Sky Sports.

VAR controversy

The clash was marked by significant VAR controversy in the final moments. West Ham thought they had snatched a point through Callum Wilson, but his 95th-minute equaliser was ruled out for a foul on goalkeeper David Raya.

“It is a tough ground to come to. The goal got us in front, but we knew we had to keep the clean sheet as well. It was a great time to score, and we got the win. Two games to go, and hopefully something nice is waiting for us,” Trossard added.

Final run-in

Arsenal now heads into their final two fixtures fully aware that their destiny is in their own hands. While the club have been repeatedly mocked for bottling title races in recent history, their resolve remains firm.

The title picture will become even clearer by the end of Wednesday, May 13, 2026, when Manchester City faces Crystal Palace in their game in hand.

City had previously closed the gap to two points, putting immense pressure on Mikel Arteta’s squad, but the Gunners’ response was superb.

What was an overall tricky afternoon for 83 minutes was ultimately turned around by the Belgian international’s clinical finish.

Some excellent interplay with Martin Odegaard saw him enter the penalty area and tee up Trossard, who curled it in at the near post.
