Several passengers are feared dead after bizarre accidents that occurred in Miti Mbili area along the Eldoret-Webuye highway.

While confirming the incident, Uasin Gishu police commander Ayub Gitonga stated that so far, three people have been confirmed dead.

“It is true we’ve lost three people and more than 10 others injured following the accident,” he stated.

In the Sunday morning incident, the first accident occurred after a 14-seater matatu from Trippin Sacco rammed into a trailer that had suddenly stopped on the road.

Consequently, a NNUS sacco matatu heading to Eldoret, stopped on the side of the road to rescue victims of the first accident.

It was during the rescue mission that another trailer heading to Webuye rammed into the second matatu before overturning.

“The second accident occurred after a Nissan matatu stopped at the scene but was hit by a trailer from Webuye which was heading to Eldoret,” Gitonga stated.

Officers have since been deployed at the scene to control traffic flow and remove the vehicles.

“The accident has caused a huge traffic jam along the busy highway and our officers are at the scene to clear the road,” the police boss added.

Victims were rushed to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital for treatment as efforts are underway to evacuate one person still trapped under the second matatu.
