Everything you need to know about DCU’s Lanterns trailer

Detective Comics (DC) Studios has officially released the second teaser trailer for Lanterns on Monday, May 18, 2026, giving fans a much deeper look at one of the most anticipated projects in the new DC Universe.

Set to premiere on HBO Max on Sunday, August 16, 2026, the series appears to blend cosmic superhero action with mystery, detective drama, and grounded character storytelling.

Unlike previous live-action Green Lantern adaptations, Lanterns takes a more serious and cinematic approach. The trailer carries a darker tone, combining large-scale cosmic visuals with an almost detective-noir atmosphere.

The teaser focuses heavily on mystery, tension, and character dynamics rather than nonstop action.

The series is expected to follow members of the Green Lantern Corps as they investigate a dangerous intergalactic threat connected to Earth.

Cast performances

The teaser gives fans a first proper look at several iconic Green Lantern characters. Hal Jordan is portrayed as charismatic and reckless, immediately grabbing attention in a scene where he casually uses his power ring to counterfeit money.

John Stewart brings a completely different energy, appearing more disciplined, serious, and military-focused. His grounded personality creates a strong contrast with Hal’s cocky attitude.

Meanwhile, Guy Gardner fully embraces his loud and chaotic comic-book personality, adding humour and unpredictability to the trailer.

One of the biggest talking points from the teaser is the repeated line: “Are you afraid?”

The trailer avoids revealing major plot details, but it strongly suggests that the series will involve a dangerous cosmic mystery tied to fear, power, and the Green Lantern Corps itself.

Visuals and action

The teaser finally delivers the green energy constructs fans wanted to see. Massive energy blasts, glowing ring effects, and detailed power creations appear throughout the footage.

The visual effects look polished and cinematic, helping the series feel more like a major HBO production rather than a traditional superhero show.

The second teaser has significantly boosted excitement around the project. Many viewers who were initially sceptical about the DC reboot now see Lanterns as one of the franchise’s most promising titles.

With strong visuals, comic-accurate personalities, and a darker HBO-style tone, Lanterns could become a major turning point for the new DC Universe.
