Deputy President William Ruto has dismissed claims by Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa that Ruto wanted to slap him in 2018.

Speaking at a political rally in Kitalale, Saboti Constituency, Trans Nzoia County, Ruto said the claims are “pure lies” and meant to tarnish his name ahead of the August 9 general election.

“I heard a certain guy claiming that I wanted to slap him. Where I come from, we don’t slap women. Please, let him know that,” Ruto said on Tuesday, July 12.

The country’s second in command and United Democratic Alliance (UDA) presidential flag bearer said Eugene Wamalwa has no moral authority to attack him in his campaigns, saying he made him a Cabinet Secretary in Jubilee government.

“If it were not for me, Eugene would not have been in the Jubilee government. I picked him from the streets and made him a cabinet secretary in Jubilee government, the one President Uhuru Kenyatta and I formed.

“Nowadays, he has along mouth stretching all the way to South Africa. He should shut his mouth,” Ruto said.

Ruto cautions use of title deeds to campaign for Raila

Ruto also took a swipe at tribal leaders who are using land title deeds to campaign for Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition presidential candidate Raila Odinga.

“I have heard some crooks saying some people living in Kitalale will be evicted from their farms. I want to assure you that you will live here until you exit from this world.

“They are now using the national titling programme to gain political mileage, fortunately, Kenyans are not fools,” Ruto added.

Ruto said if he ascends to power, he will ensure all the squatters in the country are resettled.

“In our manifesto, we have committed to buy one million acres to be given to the squatters and landless people of this country,” Ruto promised.

Ruto was accompanied by Ford-Kenya party leader Moses Wetangula who took a swipe at Raila Odinga for demanding that a manual register be used in voting in the forthcoming elections.

“Raila Odinga has realized that Kenya Kwanza Alliance will form the next government. That is why he is threatening IEBC. He should prepare to retire with President Uhuru Kenyatta,” Wetangula said.
