‘Piny Luo’ festival kicks off despite court order
Organisers defied court orders to host the much-publicised Luo cultural festival dubbed ‘Piny Luo‘.
The ongoing festival that began on Friday, June 30 is scheduled to take place until July 4, 2023, in Homabay County.
In an update, Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya party leader Raila Odinga shared photos from the event capturing other leaders including Governor Gladys Wanga and Mama Idah Odinga.
“A Piny Luo-tiful time at the Piny Luo Cultural Extravaganza in Homa Bay,” he tweeted.
Among other activities, the event was also set aside to unveil the new Ker Luo months after the death of the former Ker Opiyo Otondi.
Ker Luo is regarded as the cultural leader of the community.
However, in the court ruling, the judge also prohibited the respondents from naming the new Ker Luo pending the hearing and determination of the application which was scheduled for July 4.
