A 37-year-old police constable attached to the Critical infrastructure protection unit (CIPU) has committed suicide by shooting himself in the head in his rented house in Kimathi Estate in Nyeri town.
According to Nyeri Central Sub-County Commander Paul Kuria, the officer failed to report to work in the morning and when attempts to reach him failed, they went to look for him only to find the door of his house locked from inside.
“The officer left work for home yesterday evening and when he failed to report to work today, we tried to reach him and later we found him dead in his house with gunshot wounds,” Kuria said.
Police officer found dead in his house
Kuria said that the body of the officer, who has served the police service for 13 years, had gunshot wounds on the head an indication that he had committed suicide by shooting himself. He said that investigations have been launched in order to ascertain the real cause of the officer’s death.
An AK 47 rifle was recovered in the house of the deceased and spent cartridges were believed to have been used by the officer.
He called upon the police officer to speak out when troubled instead of making tragic decisions.
The body was taken to the Nyeri County Referral Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.
