Police in Nakuru have recovered military fatigue from a rental house in Pangani, Nakuru, as a crackdown on criminal gangs in the county intensifies.

In a statement on Monday, July 18, the National Police Service (NPS) said the military tactical gear was recovered following a tip-off from a member of the public.

The recoveries included two military cap peaks, three jungle shirts, a pair of jungle trousers, two jungle carrier bags, webbing (58) straps and four pouch straps.

“Additionally, the team recovered 1 ground sheet, 4 ground sheet carriers, side pouches among other items,” the statement read in part.

The operation was led by County Commander Peter Mwanzo, who was transferred to Nakuru from Nairobi, after insecurity concerns.

“Coming fast on a backdrop of heightened security activities following a spate of criminality by gangs in the city, security officers flanked by the sub-county security committee witnessed the display of an assortment of gears by our crime scene personnel,” police said.

The scene was processed by the police crime scene personnel in the presence of a team of military police officers from the Kenya Defence Forces in Lanet.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.

Criminals gangs terrorise Nakuru residents

Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i ordered a crackdown in Nakuru last month after a spate of killings involving women by suspected members of the ‘Confirm’ gang.

“We have made changes in the security management of this city, and from today, we will have police patrols in this region. Let them be warned that we are here to look for them. We have all the resources. We are not going to sleep until we get the last one of them,” Matiang’i said.

Last Friday, the police said they had killed four members of the gang while five others escaped the police dragnet.
