Police in Nairobi have launched a manhunt for a Kilimani-based businessman in whose house 22 firearms and over 500 rounds of ammunition were recovered in a recent operation.

In a statement on Wednesday, June 22, 2022, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said Ken Wycliff Okello Lugwili went into hiding after learning that he is being sought.

The proprietor of Vic. Technologies Limited has been given 24 hours to surrender to the nearest DCI offices within 24 hours even as detectives from the Anti-terror Police Unit (ATPU) cast their nets wide for the fugitive.

Auctioneers raid Lugwili’s Kilimani apartment

According to the DCI, police stumbled upon the lethal weapons during a raid at the businessman’s Kilimani apartment by auctioneers.

Apparently, Lugwili had defaulted on his rent for a long time prompting the landlord, Ballon Wanjala Nangalama, to seek a court order allowing him to break into the house.

“Accompanied by Kilimani-based police officers, Hebros auctioneers gained entry into the premises, ready to issue a notification of sale of any worthy items in a bid to recover rent arrears amounting to Sh4,962,990,” DCI said.

Upon gaining entry into the house, the police found an armoury, stocked with an assortment of weapons of different calibers and 565 rounds of ammunition.

Also found in the house were 25 pistol holsters, dozens of magazine carriers, 30 slings and ten sniper torches.

Officers investigating the matter have since established that the suspect was a licensed firearm dealer but his license was suspended over three years ago.

“The suspect who has since gone into hiding is wanted and has 24 hours to surrender to the nearest DCI offices,” DCI added.

“Should you have any information on his whereabouts, please dial 0800 722 203.”
