Parents and pupils paralyzed learning at Mitero primary school in Tigithi ward, Laikipia East constituency, as they demanded the Ministry of Education to address their concerns.

The parents accused the school management of poor running of the learning institution, complaining that the school’s performance had drastically gone down over a three-year period.

They also accused the school head of channelling school funds into his personal pockets, lamenting that there had been no development project since he took over the school’s management.

The irate parents noted that they had made frequent trips to the divisional education office at Lamuria and Nanyuki sub-counties to complain about the matter but no action had been taken.

They say that despite contributing funds for exams, their children did not sit any exams last term questioning where the funds were diverted.

The parents also claimed that over Ksh25,000 had been contributed earlier to finance the procurement of desks and other projects.

Additionally, the parents also complained of the school being understaffed with only four teachers and a reportedly absentee headmaster. They said the Ministry of Education was yet to replace the deputy headmaster who went on retirement over two years ago.

The parents called on the Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Maghoha to intervene on the matter as the school’s assets are on the verge of being auctioneered over debts unknown to them.
