The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) has captured a hyena which was sighted roaming in the Nairobi Embakasi area on Tuesday, May 28, 2024.

In a statement, KWS explained that the successful capture of the dangerous wild animal followed an alarm raised by the National Police Service (NPS).

How hyena was captured

In a well-choreographed operation, KWS officials deployed a special trap which was used to capture the hyena on the loose.

“KWS Nairobi team received an urgent call from the National Police Service ‘A’ campus in Embakasi. An unexpected visitor had been spotted roaming the grounds: A hyena!,” KWS statement read in part.

“Our team sprang into action, deploying a specially designed predator trap to safely capture the hyena without causing it any harm. After careful planning and execution, the hyena was successfully captured and ready to be returned to its rightful home,” the wildlife service added.

The hyena was then transported and released at the Nairobi National Park. Following the successful operation, KWS lauded the police and Embakasi citizens for acting promptly to inform them of the pending danger.

The KWS team vowed to champion for peaceful coexistence between wildlife and the communities.

“The KWS team safely transported the hyena to Nairobi National Park, where, amid the vast savannah and familiar landscapes it was released back into its natural habitat.
