World marathon champion Eliud Kipchoge’s wife Grace Sugut now says she fasted and prayed him to yesterday’s victory when he broke his own record.
She says prior to the big day yesterday, Sunday, September 25, during Berlin Marathon, she had fasted for seven days praying for a miracle.
Speaking to local media, Sugut who followed the event on live television with their three children (Lynn, Griffin and Gordon) says she is beyond grateful that her prayers were answered.
“I congratulate my husband for making history by lowering his world record time again. I was in a prayer mood for the last week and I fasted for a miracle to happen. I’m happy that victory has come home,” she said.
She says she contacted him the night before the race and he was optimistic.
“We talked on the eve of the race and I wished him (Kipchoge) well and gave him my blessings because he wanted to go to bed early. He was calm and just told me he wanted to run a beautiful race. The kids are so happy. His victory has motivated them to work even harder in school,” she added.
Kipchoge, 36, crossed the tape in a time of 2:01:09 to smash his 2018 world record of (2:01:39).
He had won the event in 2015 and 2017.
