The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has launched investigations into three separate incidents where the police are accused of misconduct during the election period.

IPOA is investigating an incident where police allegedly shot two men and assaulted a woman on separate dates.

The agency’s chairperson Ann Makori while speaking on Saturday, August 13, 2022, said that all the victims in the shooting incidents sustained fatal injuries.

Makori said the shooting incident allegedly involved police and a candidate’s bodyguard in Uasin Gishu on August 8.

She also said the agency is investigating an incident involving a police officer from Bungoma county who is accused of assaulting a woman.

“We are also investigating an alleged rape attempt on August 10, 2022, by a police officer at Matisi police station in Bungoma county,” Makori said.

IPOA dispatched 250 police to monitor security operations during the electioneering period.
