Kenyans have been cautioned to prepare for heavy rainfall forecasted to continue in various parts of the country this week.
In an advisory, the Kenya Meteorological Department on Monday, April 15 said rainfall is expected to persist across several regions, with heavy downpours anticipated in the Central Highlands, Western Kenya, Rift Valley, South-eastern lowlands, Coast, and North-eastern Kenya.
The weatherman also predicted high daytime temperatures to hit the Coast, North-eastern and North-western Kenya.
“High daytime temperatures exceeding 30°C are anticipated in Coast, North-eastern, and North-western Kenya,” the weatherman said
Additionally, moderate night-time temperatures ranging between 10°C and 20°C have been forecasted for the Central Highlands and Western Kenya.

Heavy Rainfall
Two days ago, the weather department issued another advisory indicating that certain regions in Kenya are expected to experience isolated heavy rainfall.
These regions include the highlands both East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley itself, the South-eastern lowlands, the Coast, and North-eastern Kenya.
Starting from Saturday and lasting until Wednesday, specific areas like the highlands East of the Rift Valley, encompassing counties such as Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, and others, are forecasted to have morning rains in a few places, followed by showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon, and more showers at night. The maximum average temperature for these regions during this period is expected to be around 29 degrees Celsius, with a minimum average of 12 degrees Celsius.
Similarly, the highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and parts of the Rift Valley, covering counties like Kisumu, Baringo, and Narok, will experience similar weather patterns over the mentioned days, with temperatures ranging from 29 degrees Celsius as maximum to 14 degrees Celsius as minimum average.
Coastal areas such as Mombasa, Tana River, and Kilifi will predominantly see rain in the afternoon, while regions like Kitui and Kajiado will have showers and thunderstorms during the afternoon and some rain at night in certain places.
However, the likelihood of rainfall is low in counties like Marsabit, Mandera, and Turkana. Conversely, areas in the North, East, and Coastal regions are expected to have higher temperatures surpassing 30 degrees Celsius.
The director of meteorological services, David Gikungu, advised the public to utilize this forecast alongside the daily 24-hour forecasts provided by the department and to seek county-specific forecasts from the respective County Directors of Meteorology.
“This forecast should be used in conjunction with the daily (24-hour) forecast issued by this Department,” Director of Metrological Services David Gikungu said.
“County-specific forecasts are available from the offices of respective County Directors of Meteorology.”
