Tanzanian singer Diamond Platnumz has congratulated president-elect William Ruto after Monday’s victory.

The Bongo star, whose real name is Naseeb Abdul, also lauded the country at large for a peaceful general election.

Ruto was declared the winner of the August 9 presidential election with 7,176,141 votes, which is 50.49 per cent of the total votes cast.

The country’s Deputy President narrowly beat Azimio la Umoja – One Kenya coalition leader and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who garnered 48.5 per cent of the vote.

Diamond Platnumz was among musicians who graced Azimio’s last rally at Kasarani National Stadium on August 6.

In a 7-minute electrifying performance, the ‘Gidi’ hitmaker rallied the youth to support the ODM party leader’s presidential bid.

“Baba, nataka nikuambie vijana wanakuamini sana, nchi inakuamini sana na wewe ndio rais wetu,” he said.

But reacting to Raila’s loss on Monday, the artiste urged the Azimio leader’s supporters and other opponents to accept the results and join hands with the president-elect for the betterment of the country.

“Pongezi sana wana Kenya kwa kuhitimisha zoezi la uchaguzi na kumpata Rais leo… Sasa hivi tena si Team Ruto, Wajackoya ama Team Odinga, ni Pamoja Team Kenya ili kwa pamoja kuendeleza Maendeleo ya Kenya na Wana Kenya kwa Ujumla,” Diamond said in a post shared on Instagram.
