Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has announced that he is taking a short break from reading for his third master’s degree exam.

In a statement on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, Babu said the short break would enable him to take part in the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) recruitment drive in Nairobi.

“Over the past month, I have been eating books like yams in preparation for my 3rd Masters degree exams. I am pounding these pages vigorously in my plan to ensure I show no mercy to my examiners. But I will take a short break for the ODM recruitment drive in Nairobi before resuming my academic attack. God bless me,” Babu stated.

Babu has been missing in action during the party’s recruitment drive which happened in the last few weeks in the Western and coastal regions.

The party leader Raila Odinga led the party officials in a recruitment drive that happened in Busia, Vihiga, Bungoma, Lamu, Tana River, Kilifi, Taita Taveta, Kwale and Mombasa Counties in January.

Babu’s education

The MP holds an Actuarial Science degree, first-class honours and a Master’s degree in Architectural Science. He also holds an LLB Law degree.

Currently, he is pursuing a Masters degree in law.

In an interview with a local TV station last year, Babu said that he wanted to do a degree for everyone in his family, after growing up in abject poverty.

“The Actuarial Science first class honours was for my mother, then after that I did Masters in Architectural Science for my sister then after that I did LLB Law degree for my brother then Masters in law for myself,” Babu said.

“I wanted to do a degree for everybody in that house so that was the motivation because as we were growing up we were told that education is the key to success so I saw why can’t I have many keys to success.”
