Several people sustained injuries after an Embassava Sacco bus rammed a private car on the Nairobi Expressway on Monday, July 4, 2022.

The accident occurred at the Mlolongo Toll station exit on Monday evening.

Witnesses said the Toyota Prado was waiting for clearance at the exit when the speeding Public Service Vehicle (PSV) rammed into it.

Police said more than 20 people, who were on the bus, were injured.

The victims were rushed to various hospitals including Kenyatta National Hospital, Shalom Community Hospital and Machakos Level 5 for treatment.

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) confirmed the incident, further advising motorists to exit/enter the Expressway at the Syokimau Toll Station.

“Motorists are notified of an accident that has occurred along the Nairobi Expressway at the Mlolongo Toll Station, involving a PSV mini-bus. Multiple injuries have been reported, and traffic police are attending to the scene,” KeNHA said in a statement.

“Motorists are advised to exit/enter the Expressway at the Syokimau Toll Station, even as rescue efforts are underway at the scene of the accident.”

Second accident on Expressway

This is the second accident to be reported on the newly-launched road in a span of one week.

One person was killed and several others injured after an accident at the Mlolongo Toll station on Saturday, June 25.

KeNHA said that the deceased crashed into a toll booth and other vehicles while attempting to exit the toll station at a high speed.

“The motorist crashed into the Toll plaza and ran over other vehicles that were being cleared to exit. Consequently, the vehicle knocked one toll booth and injured one toll attendant besides the other motorists,” KeNHA said.

The Nairobi Expressway was officially opened by President Uhuru Kenyatta in May this year.

The multi-billion project was initiated by the Kenyan government to ease traffic congestion on Mombasa Road.
