Mombasa: 5 nursing injuries after student sneaks tear gas canister into school

Five students from St. Charles Lwanga Secondary School in Changamwe, Mombasa, are nursing injuries after a tear gas canister exploded in the institution.

Authorities say one of the students sneaked the tear gas canister, often used by the police to quell riots, into the school on Friday morning.

Tear Gas Canister Explodes

Changamwe Deputy County Commissioner Michael Yator said the Form Four student went ahead to play with the canister with other students before it exploded injuring the five.

The police boss said the victims, including the suspect, suffered minor injuries.

They were rushed to Bomu hospital where they are receiving treatment.

Meanwhile, police have launched investigations into the incident. They are seeking to establish how the Form Four candidate accessed the canister ought to have been safely secured.
