The Kenya Red Cross has rescued 246 families displaced in Mansabubu area in Bura East, Garissa county after River Tana broke its banks.
According to the humanitarian agency, the entire village was submerged after the river broke its banks.
Following the unfortunate incident, the Kenya Red Cross swiftly relocated the affected families to a camp on higher grounds in Mansabubu area.
“246 families in Mansabubu, Bura East, Garissa County were recently displaced after the River Tana broke its banks, submerging the entire village. These families are currently residing at a camp on higher ground in Mansabubu,” the organization stated.
At the camp, the victims are offered assistance in the form of distributed foodstuffs and essential items such as blankets, sleeping mats, jerrycans, soap, kitchen sets and water treatment chemicals, among other items.

The latest comes a day after 708 people in Merti area in Isiolo county were displaced after River Ewaso Nyiro burst its banks.
Kenya Red Cross stated that both Merti South and North had been inundated affecting schools, businesses, sanitation services, and health facilities.
“708 households were displaced in Merti South and North in Isiolo after the River Ewaso Nyiro broke its banks. Schools, business premises, and health and sanitation facilities were also affected. The Kenya Red Cross will be registering affected families to provide emergency shelter and other essential items,” the organization announced on Friday.
