FKF boss pledges support for Junior Starlets after storming U-17 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers final round

The Football Kenya Federation President Hussein Mohammed has reaffirmed the federation’s commitment to supporting the Junior Starlets after the team secured a place in the final round of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers, where they are set to face South Africa or Tanzania.

The FKF president congratulated the young side on their latest achievement, praising the players and technical bench for their determination and hard work throughout the qualification campaign. In the reverse fixture, Junior Starlets put in a spirited performance to secure a valuable 1-1 draw against the hosts on Thursday, May 22, 2026, at the FUFA Stadium in Kampala. Following the outcome at Nyayo on Saturday, the Kenyan girls advanced to the final round of the qualifiers on an away goal rule.

On Sunday, May 31, 2026, Mohammed noted that reaching the final qualifying stage is a significant milestone for the team and a testament to the progress being made in women’s football in Kenya. He encouraged the players to remain focused as they prepare for the decisive round that will determine whether they secure a place at the global showpiece.

Necessary support

The federation boss also assured the team of continued backing, emphasising that FKF will provide the necessary support and a conducive environment to enable the players to concentrate fully on their preparations and performances.

According to Mohammed, creating the right conditions for the Junior Starlets is essential as they chase the dream of representing Kenya on the world stage. He reiterated that the federation remains committed to ensuring the squad has the resources and support structures required to compete at the highest level.

“Congratulations once again to to the Junior Starlets for qualifying for the final round of the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers. As a federation, we will continue to ensure the team receives the much needed support and an enabling environment to help you stay focused on achieving success on the pitch.” He took to Facebook.

The Junior Starlets have been one of Kenya’s success stories in youth football, and their latest qualification feat has raised hopes of another appearance at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup. With one final hurdle standing between them and qualification, attention now turns to the decisive playoff round, where the young Kenyan stars will aim to complete their journey to the tournament.
