Argentina leave it late against Switzerland to storm World Cup semi-final

Two extra-time goals from Julian Alvarez and Lautaro Martinez against Switzerland in the quarter-final on Sunday, July 12, 2026, sent Argentina to the 2026 World Cup semi-final.
Lionel Scaloni’s men survived the Swiss scare to register a hard-fought 3-1 win to book a mouthwatering semi-final cracker against England in Atlanta. Alexis Mac Allister put Argentina in front in the 10th minute before Dan Ndoye found the equaliser for the Swiss in the 67th minute.
Switzerland were reduced to 10 men when Breel Embolo was sent off in the 72nd minute, but the side remained resilient to send the defending champions into extra time.
Julian Alvarez curled in Argentina’s second goal in the 112th minute, before Lautaro Martinez sealed the victory in the 121st minute.
