Concerns about the future and welfare of Harambee Stars ace Ryan Ogam seem not to cease, as the former Tusker FC hitman, currently in the books of Austrian Bundesliga side Wolfsberger AC, remains an outcast by the club.

In a strange turn of events after his much publicised transfer to Europe, Ogam’s career seems to be on the precipice barely four months since his move in September 2025.

His continued absence from the team’s squad in November and December has been further amplified as he remains a no-show in 2026.

Settling-in in Austria

His start and adjusting to life have not been easy. Settling into a new challenge in a different country could be daunting; Ogam’s situation has been as uphill as it gets.

Amid the setback, the club recently reassured him of his role within the team—provided he keeps showing hard work and consistency.

Ferdinand Feldhofer, the club’s TM, commented on the attacker’s situation. The official stated that the club remains committed to competitiveness, making clear to new signings like Ryan that no spot is guaranteed and that team selection is purely on performance and effort.

For a player who made history as the first player from the local Kenyan league to one of Europe’s top five leagues, the demands and expectations thereof must be overwhelming.

What the doctors ordered

The star understandably has weight on his shoulder after his stellar display in Harambee Stars’s 2024 African Nations Championship and World Cup qualifiers.

With his talent not in doubt, now is the time to put matters in perspective, face his demons, and focus on just what the doctors ordered.

Career challenges have an uncanny way of reappearing.

Just as many before them, footballers repeatedly face this seemingly insurmountable hurdle presenting itself in a deja vu moment. The situation forces one to self-reflection that has oftentimes plunged others down the pit of failure.

Career-defining

Often, these challenging phases will be faced in solitude. And as draining as they appear to be, they could never be more career-defining.

It is such moments of ‘alienation’ from the teammates, family, or even the world that forge the best warriors.

Unfortunately, many have given up hope, allowing their fears to conquer them. Local examples of such ones are many. The once-touted generational talents who opted to settle for the easy path to return to the comforts of home

Be different

Regardless of his situation, Ogam must endeavour to be an exception. He should use this period of ostracism to self-reflect and reassure himself.

With the demands of modern games, second chances come in unexpected ways. These are the pivotal moments when players must transform setbacks and frustrations into a powerful springboard for comeback and success.
