Following Simba Queens’ thrilling victory over arch-rivals Yanga Princess on Friday, May 15, 2026, the mood in the Msimbazi camp shifted from a fierce, exhausting derby to a wholesome moment of joy as Kenyan internationals shared their view of the hotly contested clash.

In the heartwarming moment to savour, the ex-Police Bullets showcased her hidden journalistic flair, taking up reporting duties to interview her teammates, including fellow Kenyan stars Elizabeth Wambui and Jentrix Shikangwa, and Aisha Juma.

The highly anticipated Dar Derby ended in favour of Simba Queens, courtesy of a spectacular first-half brace from Shikangwa.

The Kenyan international’s double inspired her side to victory, providing enough cushion to withstand a heavy second-half onslaught from Yanga Princess, who managed only a consolation goal.

Golden boots and championship dreams

Stepping into her role as the team’s resident reporter, Aquino interviewed the match-winner, who opened up about her soaring ambitions for the club. Shikangwa, who is currently tearing up the league and leading the goal-scoring charts with an incredible 14 goals this season, made it clear that personal accolades come second to team glory.

“We are glad we are now leading the league,” Shikangwa told her teammate-turned-interviewer.

“The chase is still on, and despite sitting seven points clear, we are not taking our foot off the gas. We want to win the championship, and we have to devote ourselves and seal the title and be the champions.”

For Shikangwa and Simba Queens, domestic dominance is just the first step toward a greater continental dream.

Fueled by the fans

Aquino then turned her focus to midfield maestro Elizabeth Wambui. Reflecting on the electric atmosphere at the Chamazi Complex, Wambui was full of praise for the fans who turned up in droves, citing their unwavering energy as the team’s ultimate driving force.

“The match was good, and I enjoyed the game very much,” Wambui explained. “My message is to the fans: thank you so much for coming out to support us. We appreciate you deeply because you always give us the motivation and the energy we need for these big games.”

Sisterhood

Beyond the crucial three points and the widening gap at the top of the table, the playful post-match interview highlighted something truly special: the beautiful sisterhood of the Kenyan exports thriving in Tanzania.

Seeing Aquino, Shikangwa, and Wambui share a lighthearted, triumphant moment after such a high-stakes derby is a testament to their chemistry both on and off the pitch as they carry fly the Kenyan high, together
