The 2025 Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Cup holders, Nairobi United, will be aiming to put their CAF Confederation Cup woes aside when they host fellow deputants APS Bomet in what promises to be a moment of redemption for Naibois in a league fixture on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at Nyayo Stadium.

Godfrey (Solo) Oduor will be in the dugout making his debut as his charges seek to bounce back to their fine run in the 2025/2026 FKF Premier League campaign against the stubborn APS side, a team that trashed record champions Gor Mahia 4-1, at the same venue, nearly stunned AFC Leopards and held Shabana to a 3-3 stalemate with a man down on Saturday, January 24, 2026 in Kericho.

Naironi United are currently placed ninth in the FKF Premier League standings with 24 points, having played fewer matches owing to CAF assignments.

Continental woes

Continentally, Nairobi United’s campaign at CAF Confederation looks bleak as Tanzania’s Azam FC secured a hard-fought 2–1 victory over them in an entertaining encounter that was decided by a dramatic own goal late in the second half in a Group B encounter at Nyayo National Stadium on Sunday, January 25, 2026.

Following the defeat at home, Nairobi United remain rooted at the bottom of Group B with zero points in three outings, further complicating their chances of reaching the knockout stages of the competition in their debut season, after starting the journey on a higher note by knocking out African giants in the preliminaries.

Nairobi United made a bright start and took the lead in the 13th minute through Dancan Omala, who struck from outside the box after a fast break assisted by Michael Karamor.

Azam responded quickly, equalising in the 17th minute when Jephté Kitambala finished calmly from the centre of the box following a pass from Yoro Diaby.

Tight contention

The match remained tightly contested with both sides creating chances. Azam came close on several occasions through Kitambala and Iddi Selemani, while Nairobi United threatened on the counter. Goalkeepers Zuberi Foba and Ernest Mohammed were kept busy with important saves.

The decisive moment came in the 78th minute. After Himid Mao hit the post, the rebound deflected off Nairobi United goalkeeper Ernest Mohammed and into the net for an own goal, giving Azam a 2–1 lead.

United pushed for an equaliser in the closing stages, winning free kicks and corners, but Azam defended well and saw out the six minutes of added time. A late save by Ernest Mohammed denied Iddi Selemani from increasing the margin, while Azam managed the game smartly to protect their advantage.

Nairobi United will next visit Maniema Union in a bid to revive their survival hopes in CAF Confederation Cup Group B.
