Marc Cucurella: Chelsea and Real Madrid confirm transfer of Spanish defender
Marc Cucurella’s switch from Chelsea to Real Madrid has been made official with the involved parties confirming the transfer this Monday, June 15, 2026.
In a statement on X, the London Club stated that the left back had agreed to a permanent switch to the Spanish giants and wished him the best in his future.
Permanent move
“Marc Cucurella has completed a permanent transfer to Spanish La Liga side Real Madrid. Everyone at Chelsea FC would like to thank Marc for his efforts during his time at the club and for the role he played in our recent achievements,” Chelsea stated.
“Real Madrid CF and Chelsea FC have reached an agreement for the transfer of Marc Cucurella, who will be linked to our club for the next six seasons, until June 30, 2032,” a statement from the Spanish club read.

News of the former Brighton ace broke out on Sunday, June 14, 2026, after Fabrizio Romano disclosed that a deal had been agreed between the two clubs.
The journalist confirmed that Euro 2024 winner would link up with the Los Blancos after the 2026 World Cup.
Cucurella was also a target for Madrid’s rivals, Atletico and Hansi Flick’s Barcelona. He, however, chose allegiance to the capital-based team over a return to the Catalan giants.
The marauding left back rose through the youth ranks of Spanish football to become a serial winner with Chelsea in the English Premier League. He first moved from Espanyol’s academy to Barcelona in 2012. where he honed his skills through the La Masia football system.
Switch to Chelsea
A stint on loan at Eibar followed between 2018 and 2019, but his stint was short-lived despite impressing at the club, which triggered his purchase clause, and he was swiftly loaned to Getafe, albeit with an option to buy.
His breakthrough transfer came in August 2021, when Brighton secured his services. The left back went on to become a hit at the Amex under coach Graham Potter, operating as a dynamic left-back, wing-back, or left-sided defender. He capped his first season with a player-of-the-season award.
