Done deal: Real Madrid sign Inter Milan defender Denzel Dumfries
By Luke Oluoch, July 5, 2026Real Madrid’s rebuilding phase towards the new season continues to take shape with the club confirming the signing of Dutch full-back Denzel Dumfries on Sunday, July 5, 2026.
The versatile defender has agreed to a four-year contract that will keep him at the Spanish capital-based club until 2030.
The full back who faced elimination at the World Cup round of 32 with the Netherlands will now link up with Los Blancos for the new season.
Agreement reached
“Real Madrid CF and Inter Milan have reached an agreement for the transfer of Denzel Dumfries, who will be linked to our club for the next four seasons, until June 30, 2030,” the Madrid statement reads.
The La Liga giants confirmed the return of Portuguese coach Jose Mourinho after Florentino Pérez was re-elected as president in the club election held on Sunday, May 7, 2026, at the Bernabéu Stadium.
Signing spree
Dumfries’ arrival continues the transfer spree by the club, joining Bernardo Silva and Marc Cucurella among the new arrivals at the club.

Cucurella joins Los Blancos
Cucurella was also a target for Madrid’s rivals, Atletico and Hansi Flick’s Barcelona. He, however, chose allegiance to the capital-based team over a return to the Catalan giants.
Other new faces at the club are Ibrahima Konate, who joined the club after parting ways with Liverpool. His signing was announced on Thursday, June 18, 2026.
The 27-year-old defender also joined as a free agent after his contract with Liverpool expired in the summer. Konate joined Liverpool from RB Leipzig in 2021 and quickly established himself as an important member of the squad. Over five seasons, he featured in 183 matches and found the back of the net seven times.
During his stay at Anfield, the defender played a key role in Liverpool’s achievements, helping the club secure the Premier League crown in the 2024/25 campaign.
